iTero Update: ARAM! (Version 3.11)

We endeavour to be the best app on the market for competitive players trying to climb the solo queue ladder. Our features are about optimisation, performance and improvement. Be the best, grind LP and become the rank you deserve!

However, we also want to make sure that we have features available for you regardless of what game mode you want to play. But for ARAM, we just don’t think try-harding is cool. At iTero we’re big believers of these three rules for ARAM:

  1. Never take exhaust
  2. Never hit the nexus
  3. Always build off-meta

So, with that in mind, when we came to reimagine a new ARAM feature we wanted to focus on Exploration, not performance. We had a few principals that we followed with this new feature:

  • We want a deep pool to explore, so we wanted to find as many builds as we can within the data (having a sample size of 1 is still a criminal offence at iTero regardless of game mode).
  • Ensure the builds are relatively unique. Some Champion kits just don’t offer much flexibility (looking at you Naafiri, with your 8 lethality builds), but for most Champions we wanted to find at least a few very different options to choose from.
  • Minimise performance ratings. Of course, we want you to know ahead of time if it’s going to be a mega hard game to win, but we don’t want to put you off, either.
  • Provide simple clarity on why each build is different, which included some human-readable tags, a fun and unique build name and then the depth of statistics that you expect with iTero (just hidden away behind a “View More” button).
  • Make it fun!

This is what we ended up with:

ARAM Mayhem

Riot made it clear they don’t want Mayhem spoiled by over-optimised Augment selection. And we absolutely agree. But since every other app has added them and our users keep asking for them, we felt we had to add a little support for ARAM Mayhem. As part of this update we’ve added a neat overlay to give you an idea of what Augments work well with your Champion. There’s no data available on this, we had to generate our own tier list, but we’re pretty happy that it provides a useful guide on what may be useful, without being overly prescriptive on what to play.

What’s Next?

To support the launch of our new ARAM feature we’re building a new place on the website to view all the available builds and data. That includes letting you do cool things like… find the best off-meta ARAM builds for getting penta kills, or whatever.

That will be coming soon on itero.gg, so keep an eye out!
