Why Zeri Jungle Is Secretly OP in League of Legends

Most super-scalers, whether that be stacking champs or item-dependent carries, compensate for their late game strength with a weak laning phase. So for them, the jungle always offers a safe space to scale free from direct opposition.

This is especially true for Zeri, who usually has a very volatile experience bot lane.

Spark Surge’s wall glide is far more useful with all the walls she has to slide over, which also increases her clear speed and gives her an escape from enemy invades.

With her terrain-empowered Ultrashock Laser also providing sight, facechecking brushes means she generally has a pretty safe time moving around the map.

This also makes her ganks both extremely easy and unexpected.

Since she can glide across the top or bot lane walls, she’s more difficult to ward against and can always position herself behind the enemy, especially when joining a dive.

And although she’s primarily known for being a late-game carry, her early game damage is very front-loaded and burst heavy. Which in combination with her allies output, makes her great at ganking from a damage perspective.

Similarly, whilst her early clear speed is nothing to write home about, it’s fast enough to be viable and doesn’t set her off-tempo with the enemy jungler.

Having an ADC’s DPS means she always has a decent baseline, and the AOE on Utrashock Laser and her empowered Burst Fire makes clearing Wolves, Chickens or Krugs unusually fast.

And as soon as she gets some items, her clear speed goes off the charts, essentially one tapping camps.

Another really broken interaction is how she utilises red buff. As a champion designed around kiting your opponents with mobility and speed, being able to slow them on-hit makes it that much easier to execute and more difficult to punish, especially in the early game.

But just like with any scaling champion, falling behind turns you into a walking ward having neither the damage nor the items to overpower your opponents. However, this is true for both ADC and Jungle. At least in the jungle, you have far more control over your safety and scaling.

When it comes to your build, you have two different choices.

Against a tank heavy team comp, where games are slower and fights are longer, Yuntal Wild Arrows and Ruunan’s passives give you the most value, with Black Cleaver offering the armour penetration.

In some cases, he switches out Ruunan’s for Phantom Dancer, which offers more isolated DPS and move-speed. Making you safer and more flexible against single-target frontlines.

Against these kinds of comps, Conqueror is by far the best keystone. Since the fights are longer, the rune’s value is maintained for a much larger timeframe.

This isn’t necessarily because the build is better, but simply because the scaling build is less viable.

In shorter fights with less sustained damage, you don’t get the opportunity to use Conq.’s built up stacks as effeciently. In a kill or be killed game, Dark Harvest reigns supreme.

Similarly, if you need more damage at first item, you don’t have the time to wait for Yun’tal’s Stacks.
